IDEAS² Team Advanced AR-Guided Assembly of Scalable Deployable Structures

In August, the UH IDEAS² team advanced the fabrication of bistable deployable structures using an augmented-reality (AR) guided workflow. Laser-cut panels engraved with QR codes were riveted into multi-layer assemblies, enabling precise placement and smooth deployment. Two demonstrators  a flat auxetic sheet and a disk-to-cap geometry  were successfully validated, and a larger hemispherical cap composed of 72 panels demonstrated scalability to complex 3D structures. These advances establish a repeatable and reliable process for building lightweight, modular systems suited for future lunar and planetary habitats.
