In June 2024, the Department of Mechanical Engineering at UH was renamed the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. This change reflects the department's strategic commitment to expanding research and education in the aerospace field, including the planned launch of an undergraduate degree in Aerospace Engineering. Both the name change and the new undergraduate degree program have been driven by the MIRO award.
