In October 2025, the University of Houston joined the Axiom Space University Alliance, a global coalition created to expand scientific opportunities in microgravity research, technology development, and commercial innovation in low Earth orbit (LEO). UH is one of 15 inaugural partners across the United States, Europe, and Australia selected by Axiom Space, builder of Axiom Station, the world’s first commercial space station.
For UH, this partnership directly connects the NASA MIRO IDEAS² Center with commercial LEO platforms, creating new avenues for faculty and students to design, test, and fly microgravity experiments, pursue on-orbit demonstrations of adaptive space structures and soft robotic systems, and build industry collaborations that support NASA’s exploration and commercial spaceflight goals.
