New Research Papers from IDEAS² Faculty and Students on Deployable Systems

UH IDEAS² Center Co-Is Drs. Tian Chen and Theo Baxevanis, along with their students, recently submitted three research papers advancing deployable and bistable structures.

  1. Deployable 3D mesoscale structures through wafer fabrication, geometric frustration and bistable auxeticity – demonstrates a wafer-compatible approach for converting planar polyimide precursors into accurate 3D shapes.
  2. Acoustic-Assisted Fabrication of Thin Shells with Spatially Distributed Imperfections – introduces an acoustic-based method to pattern soft shells with tunable imperfections, enabling new studies in buckling mechanics.
  3. An Effective Continuum Model for Bistable Periodic Auxetic Surfaces – presents a scalable continuum model for simulating morphing auxetic systems, supporting efficient design of large-scale aerospace structures.
