UH IDEAS² Center Co-Is Drs. Tian Chen and Theo Baxevanis, along with their students, recently submitted three research papers advancing deployable and bistable structures.
- Deployable 3D mesoscale structures through wafer fabrication, geometric frustration and bistable auxeticity – demonstrates a wafer-compatible approach for converting planar polyimide precursors into accurate 3D shapes.
- Acoustic-Assisted Fabrication of Thin Shells with Spatially Distributed Imperfections – introduces an acoustic-based method to pattern soft shells with tunable imperfections, enabling new studies in buckling mechanics.
- An Effective Continuum Model for Bistable Periodic Auxetic Surfaces – presents a scalable continuum model for simulating morphing auxetic systems, supporting efficient design of large-scale aerospace structures.
