Three assistant professors in UH’s Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department are enhancing the IDEAS² Center’s aerospace research portfolio with expertise across materials, structures, and control systems:

  • Dr. Maksud Rahman brings expertise in bio-inspired materials and additive manufacturing, contributing to the development of origami-patterned 3D-printed ceramics that enable lightweight, damage-tolerant aerospace components.
  • Dr. Hussein Nassar focuses on compliant and foldable structures, deployable shells, and metamaterials, advancing morphing structures for space infrastructure.
  • Dr. Muhao Chen specializes in dynamics, actuation, and control, developing deployable and controllable architectures for space habitats and aerospace systems.

Together, these faculty significantly expand IDEAS²’s research capabilities in advanced aerospace materials, structures, and control, strengthening UH’s leadership in state-of-the-art aerospace research.
