High school students from Hardin-Jefferson High School and Anahuac High School participating in STEM outreach focused on aerospace engineering, space architecture, and space systems research.
Higher Ed Involvement:
Researchers from the University of Houston’s NASA MIRO IDEAS² Center and the Sasakawa International Center for Space Architecture (SICSA) hosted and mentored visiting high school students. Faculty and researchers introduced students to university research in deployable space structures, adaptive systems, and space architecture while discussing pathways into aerospace and engineering careers.
Description:
On January 29, 2026, 25 students from Hardin-Jefferson High School and Anahuac High School visited the University of Houston for an immersive STEM engagement focused on space architecture and deployable space systems. The visit included a tour of the UH Sasakawa International Center for Space Architecture (SICSA), where researchers delivered an introductory presentation on space architecture and highlighted research activities at the NASA MIRO IDEAS² Center.
Students were introduced to ongoing research on deployable structures and adaptive space systems, including technical developments relevant to future lunar and Mars exploration missions. The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer discussion covering future space habitation concepts and infrastructure needs.
The outreach event reflects IDEAS²’s continued commitment to K–12 STEM engagement and early workforce pipeline development in aerospace and space systems engineering.
